About photo requirements in Vietnam
Vietnamese visa photos use the 4×6cm vertical, 40×60mm. The e-visa application takes the same format as a digital file: JPG or JPEG under 2MB, front-facing, no hat, no glasses, formal attire, white background.
Both Vietnamese document pages appear below with their sizes and file rules. The studio delivers a file inside the official limit.
How to take Vietnam document photos with your phone
40×60 mm photo format
Vietnamese passport, visa and e-visa upload use a 40×60 mm portrait. This frame is taller than those used in most of Asia, so prints cut for other countries rarely transfer.
Previous 51×51 mm square standard
Older guides describe the Vietnamese visa photo as a 51×51 mm square, the US-style format. That was the earlier practice. The current standard is the 40×60 mm rectangle on white.
E-visa and passport photo requirements
The e-visa requires the same frame as a file: JPG, under 2 MB, white background, no glasses, no hat, frontal and decently dressed. For the passport, the photo should be within a year, and hair should clear the ears.
Why Vietnam document photos get rejected
Incorrect dimensions and crops
A 51×51 mm square submitted for a 40×60 mm file, a landscape crop, or a print trimmed off the frame is refused at every Vietnamese counter.
Background and lighting problems
The backgrounds are named white, and shadows or a grey cast fail the reading. Frontal daylight against a plain wall keeps the print acceptable for both checks.
Disallowed items and expired photos
Glasses on the e-visa upload, a hat, hair over the ears on the passport, and a photo past its year are not measured, and all are refused.
