About photo requirements in Malaysia

Malaysian photos run on the 35×50mm vertical: 35mm wide, 50mm high, plain white background, taken within six months. The MyVISA portal states that the uploaded eVISA photo must look studio-taken, and that raw selfies and scanned prints get rejected.

Both Malaysian document pages appear below. Each cites the official source behind its rules, and the studio turns your own photo into a compliant file.

How to take Malaysia document photos with your phone

Malaysian photo size

Malaysia's photo format is a 35×50 mm portrait. It is the familiar 35×45 mm rectangle extended five millimetres at the bottom. The official passport page sets the face height at 25-30 mm, half to sixty per cent of the frame, with a white background free of shadows.

Live Capture and online visa photos

Adult passport applications use Live Capture, the counter's own camera. The online visa route bans selfies and re-photographed prints. It requires a studio photo, no more than six months old, on pure white.

Passport and visa face measurements

Every Malaysian document uses the 35×50 mm frame, and the measurements split by document. The passport measures the face at 25-30 mm; the visa check reads it at 70 to 80 per cent. Decide which page you are filing before you crop; the two readings do not share a band.

Why Malaysia document photos get rejected

35×45 mm prints

A 35×45 mm print offered anywhere in the Malaysian system is five millimetres short. The counter notices the height before it reads the face.

Shadow-free white background

The official wording names a shadow-free white background. Even light matters twice: it keeps the wall plain and keeps the face out of its own shade.

Online visa photo rejections

On the online route, a selfie, a photographed print, and a studio photo past its six months all fail before the geometry is discussed.

Photo tips

Take one good selfie — it works for every document type.

Face a windowEven, front lighting removes face shadows — the #1 rejection reason.
Plain backgroundAny light plain wall works; the tool replaces it with the compliant color.
Look straightHead level, eyes into the lens, shoulders square to the camera.
Neutral faceMouth closed, both eyes open unless your document allows a smile.
Mind the glasses ruleSome documents do not allow glasses — check the requirements table.
Everyday clothesDark top over white is easiest; avoid uniforms and hats.
