About photo requirements in Brazil

Brazil uses two photo routes. The paper visa follows the 35×45mm consulate standard, while the official eVisa application form takes a 413×531 pixel white-background upload. The eVisa portal also checks that the nose, mouth, eyes and both ears stay visible, with no glasses or headwear.

Both Brazilian document pages appear below with their sizes and upload rules. The studio outputs the right format for each route from one photo.

How to take Brazil document photos with your phone

Brazil's three photo formats

Brazil runs three photo formats at once. The passport uses the tall 50×70 mm print. The visa uses the standard 35×45 mm. The online application uploads a digital file that the official wizard fixes at 413×531 px. One shooting session can require three different crops.

Online face visibility rules

The online route requires the nose, mouth, eyes and both ears to be visible, with no glasses, no headwear, no teeth showing and no shadows. Brazil includes the ears in this clause.

Passport print requirements

The passport print requires colour, a white background, the full face and shoulders in frame, and a photo taken within six months, with glasses off. Most issuance happens with the federal police photographing you on site. A file you bring is used for routes that still accept one.

Why Brazil document photos get rejected

Wrong photo format

Using a 35×45 mm print at the passport window or a 50×70 mm print for the online upload's 413×531 px frame is a common fault, because three formats are in use.

Visible feature errors

Hair covering an ear, a smile showing teeth, tinted lenses and a hat each break a named clause of the online route. Print counters treat them the same way.

File size and photo age

JPEG files over 2 MB fail on the online route, and prints past six months fail on the passport route.

Photo tips

Take one good selfie — it works for every document type.

Face a windowEven, front lighting removes face shadows — the #1 rejection reason.
Plain backgroundAny light plain wall works; the tool replaces it with the compliant color.
Look straightHead level, eyes into the lens, shoulders square to the camera.
Neutral faceMouth closed, both eyes open unless your document allows a smile.
Mind the glasses ruleSome documents do not allow glasses — check the requirements table.
Everyday clothesDark top over white is easiest; avoid uniforms and hats.
