About photo requirements in Thailand

Thai visa photos follow the 35×45mm standard for most applications. The one-year Non-Immigrant O-A retirement visa asks for the larger 40×60mm format, so the visa type decides the print.

The Thai page below lists both formats with their official sources. The studio prepares the file your visa type needs.

How to take Thailand document photos with your phone

Thai passport photo size

Thailand's passport applications require two copies of the local "two-inch" photo. The Thai official convention sets this size at 40×60 mm. The visa photo uses the standard 35×45 mm. The two documents therefore require two different rectangles.

Two-inch photo measurements

The inch is nominal; the Thai measurement is in millimetres. A print cut to another country's two-inch habit does not automatically measure 40×60 mm. Check the dimensions, since the name does not guarantee them.

Taking the photo

Use a plain wall and frontal light, centre the head, and leave space above the hair. Then make two prints for the passport file and one crop at 35×45 mm for the visa.

Why Thailand document photos get rejected

Wrong rectangle per document

With two formats in one family, the shape mismatch is the standard fault. It occurs with a 35×45 mm print at the passport window or a 40×60 mm one at the visa counter.

Background problems

Shadows, gradients, and off-white walls are shared reasons for refusal on both Thai rectangles.

Issues checked on either document

Tilted heads, glare on glasses, and heavy filters can be caught during review for either document.

Photo tips

Take one good selfie — it works for every document type.

Face a windowEven, front lighting removes face shadows — the #1 rejection reason.
Plain backgroundAny light plain wall works; the tool replaces it with the compliant color.
Look straightHead level, eyes into the lens, shoulders square to the camera.
Neutral faceMouth closed, both eyes open unless your document allows a smile.
Mind the glasses ruleSome documents do not allow glasses — check the requirements table.
Everyday clothesDark top over white is easiest; avoid uniforms and hats.
