About photo requirements in Singapore

Singapore splits photo rules by channel. Paper visa applications use the 35×45mm print. Uploads through ICA e-Services, online visa applications included, take a 400×514 pixel image instead.

Both Singapore document pages appear below with their sizes and upload rules. The studio outputs the right format for each route.

How to take Singapore document photos with your phone

Photo sizes for print and e-Service

Singapore document photos use two output formats: a 35×45 mm print for paper applications and a 400×514 px file for e-Service uploads. The shooting setup is the same for both; select the preset that matches your application.

Background and lighting

ICA expects a plain white, shadow-free backdrop with the head centred. Daylight from a window in front of you provides even exposure; ceiling lights leave shadows under the brow.

Original files

ICA names digitally altered or enhanced photos as unacceptable, including smoothing filters, background swaps and re-photographed prints. Follow ISO/ICAO practice: straight-on face, open eyes, no edits.

Why Singapore document photos get rejected

Wrong output for the route

A paper-sized file sent to e-Service, or a digital crop printed for a paper form, fails on format before the face is reviewed. The two presets here output the exact file for each route.

Background and posture faults

Grey or shadowed backdrops, off-centre heads, tilted faces and glare are common returns. Even lighting on a plain wall removes most of these faults.

Alterations and quality

Halos at the hairline indicate a swapped background, and over-smoothed skin is seen as enhancement. Submit an unedited capture and check it here first.

Photo tips

Take one good selfie — it works for every document type.

Face a windowEven, front lighting removes face shadows — the #1 rejection reason.
Plain backgroundAny light plain wall works; the tool replaces it with the compliant color.
Look straightHead level, eyes into the lens, shoulders square to the camera.
Neutral faceMouth closed, both eyes open unless your document allows a smile.
Mind the glasses ruleSome documents do not allow glasses — check the requirements table.
Everyday clothesDark top over white is easiest; avoid uniforms and hats.
