About photo requirements in India
Indian documents split by channel. Paper visa applications use the 51×51mm square print, while the online visa application takes a square digital file between 350×350 and 1000×1000 pixels as JPEG, 10 to 300KB. Indian passports use the 35×45mm format.
All three Indian document pages appear below with their sizes and upload rules. The studio prepares the right file for the channel you are applying through.
How to take India document photos with your phone
Four Indian photo formats
Indian documents do not share a single photo format. The visa and OCI applications use the US-style 51×51 mm square, the passport uses the 35×45 mm rectangle, the online visa upload is a 350×350 px digital square, and the PAN card takes a small 35×25 mm landscape crop. Check the document page before you shoot.
Common photo requirements
Plain backgrounds, frontal light, neutral expression, and a centred head are required across Indian documents. The rectangle changes, and on digital routes the pixel count the portal accepts changes.
Visa square photo details
For the 51×51 mm documents the head runs 25-35 mm and the digital version lands at 602×602 px. Some headroom keeps the print and the upload within their bands without re-shooting.
Why India document photos get rejected
Four common format mistakes
A passport crop sent for a visa file, a square uploaded where the portal wants 350×350 px, and a portrait crop for the PAN card are errors that occur when four formats are in use.
Background problems
Off-white walls, shadows and gradients fail the plain-background check on every Indian document, exactly as they do elsewhere. The fix is the same: plain wall, window light, tool-flattened tone.
Other rejection reasons
Tilted heads, tinted glasses, and files that went through a smoothing app can stall a file at the counter. Measurement faults are caught first.
