Finnish passport photos are specified in pixels: 500×653 for the digital file, on a light grey background without shadows. The police licence authority accepts the digital upload directly in the online application.

Digital photo dimensions

Finland's passport photo rules apply to the upload. The digital file must measure exactly 500×653 px; one pixel more or less is refused. Inside that canvas, the head is measured without hair volume or beard and runs 445-500 px, with 56-84 px of clear space above the crown.

Head measurement and headroom

Measuring the head without hair means the tape follows bone rather than hairstyle, so a tall hairdo that passes elsewhere can push the reading out of band here. The 56-84 px of headroom is the pixel equivalent of the 4 to 6 millimetre margin other countries publish.

Printed visa photo requirements

The visa photo stays on paper: 36×47 mm, frontal, neutral expression, taken within the last six months. The checklist leaves the background colour unstated, and the light-grey discipline of the passport route serves it. Retouching is forbidden on the Finnish set.

Digital file rejections

A canvas off 500×653 px, a head outside 445-500 px, or headroom outside 56-84 px: the digital channel measures all three in code before a human ever sees the face.

Digital background

The digital background is a plain light grey. Shadows behind the head, gradients from a window, and patches of uneven tone are failures of the grey; the wrong grey is also a failure.

Retouched files

Smoothed skin, brightened eyes, or any file an app has touched: the Finnish rules name retouching as forbidden, and the pixel checks catch it.
