About photo requirements in Canada
Canadian documents split by size: the passport takes a 50×70mm print, while the PR card application uploads a digital photo of at least 715×1000 pixels in JPEG. IRCC checks the digital file for framing and background during upload.
Each Canadian document page here carries its own size, background and head-position rules with the official source cited. The studio prepares the correct output for the document you select.
How to take Canada document photos with your phone
Canadian passport, citizenship and visa photo sizes
Canada's passport and citizenship photos print at 50×70 mm, a rectangle almost no other country uses. The visa photo uses the more familiar 35×45 mm frame.
Head height for Canadian documents
The face height stays constant at 31-36 mm from chin to crown on the passport, the visa, the citizenship prints and the PR card upload.
Submission formats and photo age
The citizenship application is submitted by mail with two prints and accepts a photo up to six months old. The PR card is an online upload between 715×1000 and 2000×2800 px, JPEG under 4 MB, with a freshness allowance of 12 months.
Why Canada document photos get rejected
Measuring errors
These are the faults checked first at the counter: a 35×45 mm print offered for a passport file, or a head outside the 31-36 mm band. They fail regardless of the background.
Background and texture
Pure white is accepted across these documents. The citizenship page also allows a light tone. A plain wall and frontal daylight are the reliable setup. Visible texture, a shadow cast behind the head or a slow shift in tone fails on every route.
Photo freshness and glasses
The citizenship route gives six months of freshness and the PR card gives twelve. On the PR upload, glasses pass only when the eyes show clearly without glare.
