About photo requirements in Taiwan

Taiwan travel-document photos follow the 35×45mm format, with a plain background and the same specification as standard passport photos.

The Taiwan page below shows the size and framing rules with the source cited. The studio produces a matching file from one photo.

How to take Taiwan document photos with your phone

Photo size and validity

Taiwan's standard document photo is the "two-inch" print: 3.5 cm wide by 4.5 cm tall, which is the 35×45 mm rectangle. The passport and the visa share it. The visa asks for two copies, taken within the last six months, on a white background.

Head height and retouching

On the passport the head runs 32-36 mm from chin to crown, and retouched files are named as unacceptable. The visa side keeps the same frame and the same white background, so one session covers both filings.

Light and backdrop

Plain white wall, frontal daylight, phone at eye level. Retouched skin, glare on glasses and blur are the named refusals on the passport route.

Why Taiwan document photos get rejected

Size and age errors

A print trimmed off the 35×45 mm frame, a head outside the 32-36 mm band, or a photo that has aged past the visa's six-month window are common rejection reasons.

Background problems

Off-white walls, shadows and gradients read as non-white at the counter. The visa form names a white background directly.

Retouching, glare, blur, and age

Retouched skin tones, glare on glasses, blur, and a photo older than six months on the visa route are refusals. They are judged on the print as handed over.

Photo tips

Take one good selfie — it works for every document type.

Face a windowEven, front lighting removes face shadows — the #1 rejection reason.
Plain backgroundAny light plain wall works; the tool replaces it with the compliant color.
Look straightHead level, eyes into the lens, shoulders square to the camera.
Neutral faceMouth closed, both eyes open unless your document allows a smile.
Mind the glasses ruleSome documents do not allow glasses — check the requirements table.
Everyday clothesDark top over white is easiest; avoid uniforms and hats.
