Dutch passport face length

The Dutch passport requires a face length of 26-30 mm on the 35×45 mm frame for applicants from eleven years up. Neighbouring systems commonly accept 32-36 mm, so a photo framed for them is above the Dutch maximum. The Dutch band is lower and narrower.

Digital dimensions

The Dutch page also sets the digital requirements. The file this site delivers at 551×708 px meets them. If you frame the 26-30 mm band once, the print, the scan and the upload use the same framing.

Background and lighting

The background must be plain white with even frontal light, and retouching is refused by name. The narrow band leaves no room for a tilted head or an uneven wall; margins that allow a generous band do not allow this one.

Face length over 30 mm

A head reading 32-36 mm, the passing grade in Berlin or Paris, breaks the Dutch ceiling of 30. The fix is to step back until the face falls inside the band.

Off-white, shadows and gradients

Off-white paint, shadows and gradients are treated as failures of the white-background rule, as they are everywhere else. The narrow band gives them no leeway.

Smoothed skin, corrected tones and an app's fingerprints are refused under the clause on the Dutch page, and the counters apply it.
