One upload, two deliveries: the pixel-exact digital file and a 300 dpi print-ready sheet.
What each line means
Digital size — the digital file must measure 400 × 514 px. Anything smaller gets refused by many online systems before a person sees it.
Background — a plain White background, with no shadows or gradients. A wall lit unevenly is the fastest route to a refusal.
Resolution — 300 dpi keeps a face sharp in print. Below that, features soften and agencies ask for a retake.
Digital format — some portals accept a single file type and quietly refuse everything else. Check what you are handing over before you upload.

How to take a Singapore Online Visa Photo with your phone
Photo dimensions for the ICA e-Service upload
The Singapore online visa photo is 400×514 px on white. This size is used for the ICA e-Service upload and nowhere else; it does not correspond to the pixel translation of any print format. The printed 35×45 mm photo serves the counter, while this file serves the form. Both formats exist side by side.
Background and expression requirements
The background must be white and uniform — matt white, not blown out. The face frontal, the expression neutral, both eyes open and unobstructed. Nothing in the frame except the head, the shoulders and the white behind them.
Camera and lighting setup
Use a white wall, daylight from the front, and the camera at eye level. Avoid mixed lighting, such as a warm lamp on one side and daylight on the other, because it puts a colour cast on the skin.
Output of this preset
The preset exports exactly 400×514 px on a clean white background. Head position and background are checked before export, and the file is ready for the e-Service form.
Why Singapore Online Visa Photo gets rejected
Off-white backgrounds
Cream walls, grey whites and sunlit patches each read as a non-white background at upload. The check looks for plain white rather than general lightness.
Wrong dimensions
A 413×531 file, the standard 35×45 translation, does not fit this form. The e-Service requires 400×514 exactly. Export directly for the form instead of converting another format's file at upload time.
Common rejection reasons
Tilted head, half-closed eyes, hair across an eyebrow, or a shoulder cut by the frame edge are standard refusals. They are judged on the uploaded file.
